Here's What You Need to Know
at MollyDogs if the puppy is being shipped we will wait until they are older than 8 weeks before shipping. Usually 9 weeks, or longer if they will have a long flight or travel day ahead of them.
also the puppy should be 2 lbs or over before shipping.
the cargo area where your puppy will be is climate controlled, cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
we always schedule the puppy on the shortest flight possible for their trip home.
Whatever is best for the puppy is what guides us.
You should be aware that weather conditions/temperatures can affect flight schedules, we do our best to work around this but sometimes this is beyond our control.
Rest assured ~ many, many times we have heard back from families on the receiving end how the puppies have come out of their crates at the airport with their tails wagging, giving kisses and happy to see their new families and best of all ~ no accidents in the crate!
What to Bring to The Airport
The first thing to do is to make sure you know where the CARGO area at your airport is. We can’t stress that enough. Where you pick up your puppy will not be where you would normally go to pick up a person. So knowing the location ahead of time will save you a lot of last minute grief driving around trying to find out where to pick your puppy up from. Plus your puppy will waiting for you and anxious to meet you! J
Allow 20 minutes to half an hour after the plane arrives to pick up your puppy.
Make sure you have the weigh bill # that I emailed you and photo ID to show that you are the rightful owner of the puppy.
Take to the airport a litter tray if you are going to be litter training, if not take some newspaper to put down for the puppy to go on as you can’t put them on the ground there. They may not need to go but just in case.
Also take a collar and leash so that if you do put the puppy down on paper you have some control over their movements.
Bring along a nice soft blanket or towel in case the puppy has had an accident during travel, that way you can put clean bedding in for the puppy. Also baby wipes to clean the puppy if necessary and some household wipes, like Lysol wipes, to clean the inside of the crate in case the puppy has had an accident.
You can take a small amount of water and some puppy food along, chances are they may not want any but it’s good to have it on hand just in case.
A camera is essential of course as you will want to record your first moments with your new family member and even the trip home!
Other than that lots of cuddles and hugs to welcome your new family member!
Please don’t forget to phone us as we are always waiting anxiously to hear that our puppies have made it to their new families safely. You can take along our phone number to the airport or call us once everyone is home. Thank you.
Most importantly ENJOY YOUR NEW FAMILY MEMBER!
